When You Wish Upon a Star...

Ten years ago tomorrow, I started working at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center. I have loved being a part of this amazing place of hope and miracles. Duke Children's will always have a special place in my heart. We will always be connected...they have saved Mark time and time again and the research saved Aleah's life. But our relationship is changing, today was my last day as an employee.

It is hard to believe. The memories -- both good and trying -- bring both laughter and tears. It has been an amazing journey full of learning experiences and surprises along the way. I cherish those memories they have helped make me who I am. They have taught me how important it is to devote yourself to a cause you believe in, the power of one person dedicated to make a difference can change the world and the strength of those going through trials, especially children. I remember hundreds of patients and their families. I am humbled to have spent 10 years working with MIX 101.5 and the Radiothon for Duke Children's ($13 million and counting...we are still celebrating that milestone!) I cherish those friendships of patient families, MIX and all those I have worked with..and I am not going far.

Beginning on March 15, I will be the new CEO at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina. I am thrilled with the opportunity and overjoyed to be continuing to work on behalf of young patients. Now, I will be helping bring smiles to their lives through the power of a wish come true. The potential is great and I am excited to be joining a dynamic team of passionate people devoted to helping children. I can't think of a better organization!

My new e-mail is kjohnson@eastncwish.org. Please keep in touch!
